Extensive pastoralism is a major land use in the tropical savannas. Presently there is interest within the industry to further develop the intensity of land use to achieve greater productivity, but at the same time improve the standard of natural resource management. Two projects are supporting these aims: one is investigating the ecological responses and management requirements of more intensive use; the other is using the Best Practice Process to identify and promote both the general principles and regionally specific practice of excellence in natural resource management.
