Research Program
Natural resource governance

There is now broad consensus that local participation is a necessary prerequisite to the sustainable management of natural resources. Government, industry and non-government organisations have expressed a desire to involve local communities in natural resource management (NRM) planning and decision making in the NT. In particular, there is a strong interest in identifying changes in governance that can improve community participation in NRM processes and programs. Effective governance models are likely to vary markedly depending on the natural resources being utilised and the socio-cultural context.
