Dr Garry Cook - BAgrSc, PhD
Principal Research Scientist (savanna ecology)

Dr Cook is a savanna ecologist with interests in soil and landscape processes, fire ecology and vegetation dynamics. Together with Adam Liedloff, he has developed the FLAMES computer simulation model of the impact of rainfall variability and fire management on tree dynamics in savannas. Dr Cook is a graduate of The University of Queensland , where he completed a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science and was awarded a PhD (1988) for his research into soil structural degradation under wheat cropping. He came to Darwin in 1988 to work with CSIRO on the Kapalga Fire experiment in Kakadu National Park. He is author of more than 70 journal papers and book chapters in soil science and savanna ecology.
