Indigenous Information Products
CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems in Darwin has been producing communication products appropriate for Indigenous audiences since 2001. These products include highly visual story books which rely on simple text and large images to communicate complex scientific concepts, posters and DVDs. The story books and posters are produced in a durable format to ensure their longevity in bush communities. Some of the areas of research communicated to Indigenous people in northern Australia include fire ecology and management in northern Australia, Indigenous wetland burning in Kakadu National Park and incorporation of Indigenous interests in water planning in northern Australia. Evaluation of the effectiveness of these communication products, particularly the story books, is undertaken by researchers in the field on an ongoing basis. This continual refinement ensures that stakeholder information needs are met.
